Sixth form student,
Elevating Success UK Work Experience
6 th July - 17 th July 2015
My time at Elevating Success has enabled me to participate in three business areas, admin, design and the co-facilitating of training programmes. Upon arrival I was charged with contributing an idea that would have a long term impact on the business and would provide an insight into what the charity did. Working with another intern, who was also on placement, we presented our ideas to the CEO of Elevating Success UK at a meeting. This was challenging, but I’m pleased to say that our lasting legacy will be that Elevating Success UK will now create a video Annual Report to complement its current printed and electronic versions.
Other activities I participated in included the design of a flyer to be used to attract potential youth volunteers to the Momentum 2015 Youth Conference. My design has been published on Momentum’s social media allowing me to gain confidence in my design capabilities, as well as the knowledge that I can work to a design brief and a tight deadline. I now feel able to work on small business projects of a similar nature should the opportunity arise again.
During my placement I had many other positive experiences including facilitating a training programme. I organised the training room, set up laptops and - working as part of a team - assisted the adult learners of the programme. Initially I was quite shy and lacked the confidence to interact with them, but in the second week of the progamme I was asked to present a PowerPoint to the learners. This challenged both my confidence and presentation skills. I’m pleased to say that I overcame my personal barriers and apart from developing new IT skills I have also grown in confidence which I know will be a useful attribute in the future.
In all, the experience superseded my expectations and has met the requirements of bettering a young person like myself.
