I joined Elevating Success as a Social Media intern from De Montfort University and was very hesitant about what to expect. I had never worked in an office and was expecting it to be very two dimensional: a very quiet atmosphere with me stuck at a desk pushing event promotion and scrolling through Twitter and Facebook every day. However, it was far from what I expected and I was given the opportunity to take on greater responsibility including helping to secure a Quality Mark for the organisation and pooling content for its annual report.
Initially I focused solely on social media marketing and promotion, advertising several events across social media platforms. The result was that after 2 weeks I’d increased their social media engagement by upwards of 1000% utilising hashtags and popular global topics in the posts. We also surpassed the 1,000 follower mark - which is a fantastic achievement for any organisation and the foundations have been set for further growth of the social media presence of Elevating Success.
After 6 weeks I realised that my experience of not only the job role, but the atmosphere, were different to what I expected. I found a fantastic team who work more as a family in the workplace as opposed to work colleagues. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and happy to share their industry expertise and knowledge.
Working within the Lewisham area that Elevating Success supports really opened my eyes to the life support that a lot of people in the local communities need. Furthermore, I have developed my administration skill set, an area I was determined to strengthen, and am thankful for having the opportunity to do so.
